Fun on the Fourth

With everything that's been happening, and the three days I lost to the power outages, I've found myself scrambling over the last few days to keep track of all of the things I'd like to include here.  I've come to realize that I just can't fit it all in, but here are some of the highlights.

Abby's Shoe Obsession

Ever since she was old enough to show an interest in clothes and accessories, Abby's been a bit of a fashionista.  She'll make anything that fits around her arms and wrists into a bracelet, and delights in every sort of hat, from infant caps to big beach numbers.

She's also grown to love wearing Daddy's shoes.  Indeed, in the last few days, she's coveted every shoe she comes across.  This is wildly adorable, but sometimes problematic.  While she can get around, albeit clumsily, in slip-ons like these,

she tends to get tangled up in sandals, which we have learned to hide away, to avoid injury.

However, when she slipped her feet into these babies, I just had to let her have some (closely monitored) fun.  And of course, I had to take a few pictures.  This one was my favorite.

Michael's Milestones

Michael's next milestone to hit is sitting up, and he's ever-so-close.  Yesterday, he was holding himself upright for a few seconds at a time.  We've still got a little while yet before he can pull himself up to that position on his own, but it's a start!

He's also getting much better at eating from a spoon.  He's learned to keep his hands and tongue out of the way, for the most part, although he does still like to grab at and chew on the bib between bitefuls of cereal.

Independence Day Barbeque

We elected to skip the fireworks, as they were cancelled in Montgomery County (due to the continuing post-storm situation), and we were not interested in a) traveling very far to see them and/or b) battling the oversized crowds that would result from more people flocking to less available locations.

However, Lisa's mother hosted a barbeque at her home just down the street from my parents, and that seemed a perfect way to celebrate the 4th.

Abby got a chance to try corn-on-the-cob for the first time.

She was a big fan.  This is her, working on her third piece.

And she liked that spot so well that she hung out there for awhile, dog- and people-watching.

Michael continued to practice his new skill, this time with Mei Mei.

And spent some time bonding with Lisa, his future Godmother.

Abby has continued to expand her vocabulary in amazing, and amusing, ways.  Today, she demanded of me that I "gimme pasta."  She's also, when she's feeling more polite, begun to preface her needs with "I want."

Whatever will I do when she starts to tell me, "I want more shoes!"

Being a mommy- it's fun times.
